Fresh shiitakes are delicious and straight forward to prepare, but some people find that dry shiitakes have a slightly deeper umami flavor, and actually prefer them! We like them both ways, but definitely appreciate the dry version for it’s long shelf life! We have removed the stipes/stems for you, so you can use every bit of yummy shroom in the package. Enjoy!
First, rinse gently in cold water to remove any debris
- Leave whole or break up dry caps and add directly to soups, broths, etc and allow to simmer.
- Quick rehydration method: place dry caps on a heat tolerant dish and cover with hot water, cover dish and allow to soak for 20-60 minutes, drain well (retain liquid!), gently squeeze or pat dry if desired, and prepare for recipe.
- Preferred method: place dry caps in dish and cover with cold-room temperature water, cover dish and allow to soak for 10-24 hours in refrigerator, drain well (retain liquid!), gently squeeze or pat dry if desired, and prepare for recipe.
Strain to remove any residue and use soaking liquid in broth or sauces!
Store in provided package or tightly sealed glass container in a cool, dry place
