One of the “invasives” that I am growing to love and thus dig up more frequently, barberry is loaded with berberine, a powerful compound found in an array of plants, most famously the over harvested golden seal. Berba

It has been investigated for it’s anti-bacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, antihypertensive, antitumor, and antiviral properties  and as a bitter digestive tonic. Another Component, berbamine has been shown to assist in the effectiveness of chemotherapy and has a direct action against some cancer cells.

It may be useful for lowering overall cholesterol, increasing insulin sensitivity, treating bacterial diarrhea, bacterial urinary tract infections, herpes simplex, traumatic brain injury, non alcoholic fatty liver disease, intestinal infections, for broad anti inflammatory action, and more!
